Exercise Deficiencies

Every study that’s ever been done on a healthy lifestyle has found that adequate exercise is one of the essential keys to ‘Protecting your Health”.

What is adequate exercise? There has been so much written over the years about exercise, and so many opinions, but here is what we believe is acceptable to help” Protect your Health.”

Cardiovascular aerobic 2-3 times per week at 20-30 minute sessions. Resistance training with bands, weights, machines or your body weight 2-3 times per week. Stretching 10-15 minutes per day. You could also throw in some balancing exercises as well. Most people are more consistent if they exercise with a friend, in a class, or are competing in a sport.

Is it ever too late to start exercising? A study conducted at a nursing home in Orange City, FL took 19 men and woman average age 89, most of whom used wheel chairs. They did just 10 minutes of strength training a week. After 14 weeks almost everyone was out of their wheel chairs and one woman moved back into assisted living. So no it is never too late to start. If you have more questions or concerns regarding this be sure to ask the doctors on your visit regarding exercise as they can guide you in getting started or address any concerns you may have.
